Jalil “Broadday” Holmes, 19, of East Orange and Jakeem “Beanz” Gibson-Madison, a 24-year-old Jersey City man, belong to a gang based at the Marion Gardens Housing Complex, authorities said. A member of the gang was shot and killed in December.

On Jan. 9, Holmes and Gibson-Madison, who were looking to avenge the killing, spotted a white BMW they believed was occupied by rival gang members, according to authorities. While Gibson-Madison parked around the corner, Holmes approached the BMW, pulled a gun from his waistband and opened fire, wounding two of the car’s occupants and missing a third, authorities said.

Holmes and Gibson-Madison now face charges of assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering activity and of discharging a weapon during a crime of violence.
